I think I had misunderstood the Trigger Event and Hot Who. Maybe “not fully understood” is more accurate. I was approaching this from the perspective that my scene partner had just done something to me, and that the Hot Who related to that event. What I didn’t realize was that the Trigger Event could be something that happened independent of my scene partner, and the Hot Who was describing my expectation of what that relationship is. So, for example, the Trigger Event could be that I had just been involved in a hit and run accident. The Hot Who is that I view my scene partner as Concerned Spouse. The difference is that if I go in expecting Concerned Spouse and am met with Deranged Psychopath (based on my partner’s behavior) then that will change how I respond. My original understanding wasn’t necessarily wrong, it just was limited. I’m glad that we get a chance to revisit some of our old Trigger Events and fine tune them…I think I now have much more to work with.
