Meisner Class Journal 3.18.25

Last night everyone presented their final year one full exercises. I thought overall everyone showed significant growth from last week. I was overall pleased with the work Deb and I did on Dark at the Top of the Stairs. I felt a bit shaky at the top – for some reason I was struggling with lines even though I am solid on them. I’m wondering if it had to do with tweaking my trigger this week to raise the stakes. That’s the only thing I can think of. I decided to change it to “I had just lost our mortgage money at the pool hall.” Overall this helped quite a bit (except for the line issue)…the stakes definitely felt higher and more “life or death.” Feedback was overall positive.

Next week we start on our 2nd year work. We start off with Nursery Rhymes. We have to create at least one nerve, trigger event, cold facts, shared fact, and Hot Who for the audience (or portion of the audience), then paraphrase the rhyme and use rehearsal of the rhyme to come up with an “as if,” which is essentially the reason why we doing what we’re doing.

Next week begins Bill Simmons’ subbing for Jolene for the next 4 weeks. Should be interesting getting his perspective.
